Interested in becoming a Leader?
Our Leaders are an integral part of our short breaks and holidays and we are always interested in recruiting new leaders with the right experience, qualifications and aptitude.
We welcome applications from people who speak any language to university degree level, people resident in the country in which they would like to lead, or people with Mountain Leadership summer or higher walking qualifications.
It goes without saying that all applicants must also be confident, gregarious, good at managing people and good at problem solving. You'll need to be able to guide our groups around the world's great outdoors, navigate the backstreets or medieval cities, efficiently deal with both routine and extraordinary logistical tasks to ensure that things happen when they're required to, and cope with the paperwork of tour reports, updates for future leaders and the inevitable health and safety requirements to ensure that those buying our tours get the absolute most out of their holiday. You'll need to be independent, able at times to make difficult or unpopular decisions, put the welfare of your group first and to deal from time to time with difficult personalities.
Why become a leader?
Not many of us are lucky enough to have a job that takes us around the world, exploring beautiful destinations, vibrant cultures and dramatic landscapes.
As a Ramblers Worldwide Holidays or Ramblers Countrywide Leader you get to share your knowledge and passion for walking in the great outdoors every single day, helping to ensure others have a holiday experience of a lifetime. This is a way of life, not just a job, and a world away from the routine of a mass market holiday rep. Whether around the UK or around the world, it's not just about travelling, it's about inspiring travellers.

Do you speak Greek or Italian?
Currently we are particularly interested in potential leaders who speak Greek or Italian to a high standard for our European programmes.
Leading our cultural and sightseeing holidays
An increasing number of our holidays have a sightseeing element, so we also welcome applications from people interested in leading this type of holiday. If you have a background in history, art history, architecture or a similar subject we would be interested in hearing from you. You must still, however, have a strong interest in walking. Many of our holidays also operate in areas or archaeological, historical or geological interest - specialist knowledge or experience in these areas would be advantageous.
Walking at Christmas
The Christmas season is our busiest period, with over 70 departures. Finding leaders for these holidays is always a challenge, so if you are the sort of person we're looking for and free at this time of year it will very much count in your favour.
